What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a service that allows you to make and receive voice calls via your internet connection.

With Nexus VoIP you receive a real telephone number allowing you to make calls to and receive calls from anywhere in the world. Our call rates are also very attractive.

All you need is a stable internet connection with a speed of at least 2Mbps (we recommend DSL or Fibre). You'll also need a Softphone such as Zoiper, which can be used on a PC or mobile device or your can buy a VoIP Deskphone (recommended).

VoIP Deskphones work like a normal telephone and can be purchased from most PC retailers, they simply plug directly into your modem/router and connect to the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it on my Mobile Phone?

Yes but you'll need to install a compatible SIP/VoIP application for your phone and your cellular network provider must allow SIP calling over their data network. VoIP call quality is, however, much better when using DSL or Fibre.

How do I use my VoIP Number?

VoIP phones usually plug directly into your modem and act like a normal phone. Just follow your device's installation instructions and input the settings we provide to you and you'll be up and running in no time.

What is a soft phone?

Basically, a softphone is a phone that lets you make calls over the internet from a computer or other smart device. As the name would imply, it is a piece of software that acts as a phone interface, allowing you to dial phone numbers and carry out other phone related functions via a screen

How does the billing work?

Per-Second Billing / VoIP Rates
All calls made to destinations outside of our VoIP network are charged for on a per-second billing basis. Depending on which network is called, a different tariff is applied. Once your account is activated you will have access to the customer control panel where you can browse our full VoIP Tariff list.

Monthly Limit
Newly activated VoIP numbers are limited to R50 per month in chargeable calls (credit limit). This is to ensure that you do not inadvertently run up a large bill while familiarising yourself with the service. The R50 monthly limit may not be enough for you if you plan to use the service regularly to make calls to other networks. You can therefore increase this limit by paying a security deposit equal to the monthly limit you wish to set. For example, if you want a R1,000 monthly limit, you'd need to pay a R1,000 security deposit. The deposit is held by us until the account is terminated, at which point it is refunded back to you.
